-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Man has such a predilection for systems and
abstract deductions that he is ready to distort
the truth intentionally, he is ready to deny the
evidence of his senses only to justify his logic.
                                                 -- Fyodor Dostoyevsky

WWW10 tracks for agent technologies -- The 10th World Wide Web
Conference (Hong Kong, May 2001) has two tracks of interest to agents
researchers: one on mobile agents and wireless access and another on
ecommerce and security. Papers are due November 13, 2001. (10/29)

www-rdf-logic@w3.org Semantic Web mailing list -- This list is for
detailed technical discussions of all approaches to the use of
classical logic on the Web for the representation of data such as
inference rules, ontologies, and complex schemata. The list also
serves as a mechanism to provide input into W3C's Semantic Web and RDF
activities. Subscribe via

UML Diagrams for Agent Architectures -- A collection of UML diagrams
developed by Jose Vidal designed to help students who want to
implement some of the most common agent architectures using an object
oriented programming language. (10/24)

LEAP Lightweight Extensible Agent Platform -- LEAP is a European
project that will develop an agent platform that is: lightweight,
executable on small devices such as PDAs and phones; extensible, in
size and functionality; operating system agnostic; mobile team
management application enabling, supporting WAP and TCP/IP; FIPA
compliant. (10/24)

A Grammar of Dublin Core -- Thomas Baker, A Grammar of Dublin Core,
D-Lib Magazine, October 2000, Volume 6 Number 10 -- looks at the
dublin core as a language and compares it to RDF. (10/23)

Is XML killing the web? -- A controversial posting to the XML
developers list by John Dvorak claiming that "XML is killing the Web"
by introducing many divergent standards, brought many strong
reactions, both for and against the sentiments expressed. Leigh Dodds
on XML.com has covered the debate in his XML-Deviant column, "XML
Reduced", which questions whether the incessant multiplication of XML
standards is leading to confusion, and discusses what is the real
minimum a developer needs to know about XML in order to do useful
work. (el.pub) (10/23)

Conceptual Modeling and Ontological Analysis -- Nicola Guarino and
Chris, These are the slides presented at the AAAI-2000 Tutorial on
Conceptual Modeling and Ontological Analysis (MP-2) in July 2000 (10/17)

DAML Ontology Schema (Semantic Web in RDFS) -- DAML-ONT is a schema
for representing ontologies in RDFS that is being developed as a part
of the DARPA Agent Based Computing program. DAML-ONT roughly
corresponds to a frame-based or description logic knowledge
representation language and allows the definition of classes and
subclasses, their properties, and a set of restrictions thereon. The
language does not yet include any specification of explicit inference
rules, which we hope will follow. (10/15)
